News-Democrat

The O'Fallon VFW Post 805 is trying to raise money to help a deployed military chaplain buy church bells for the troops in Iraq.

The portable church bell system will cost about $4,000, according to Chip Shaffer, troop support officer for the VFW and so far the VFW has managed to raise about $300.

The VFW received the request for a portable church bell system from a military chaplain deployed to Mosul, Iraq. The church bell system would be used to ring the hour and call troops to services on Sunday while they are deployed.

On April 17 customers who order from Papa Johns Pizza at 300 Southview Plaza in O'Fallon can mention "Keep Our Troops Rolling" and the restaurant will give the VFW a portion of it's profit that day. Twenty percent of the take-out and delivery profits will be donated to the post to go toward the purchase of the church bell system.

Donations for the Church Bells for the Military can be sent to Troop Support/Church Bells c/o VFW Post 805, 223 W. Main St., O'Fallon, Ill., 62269.
