The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will conduct an Operation SAVE suicide prevention training class from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 901 at 113 Keefe St. in Elmira.

The program will be presented by Karen Aikman, suicide prevention coordinator for the VA Medical Center in Bath.

The Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom coordinator, Dawn Smith, will also be available for questions related to newly returning veterans from Afghanistan and Iraq.

The program will include a brief overview of suicide in the veteran population, what is being done locally and nationally, discussion of myths and misinformation, the Importance of identification and Operation SAVE.

The event is open to all veterans and their concerned friends and family members.
