HVAC to Assess VA's Ability to Promptly Pay Non-VA Providers
WASHINGTON, D.C.— On Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. in room 334 of the Cannon House Office Building, the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs Subcommittee on Health will hold a hearing assessing VA's ability to promptly pay non-VA providers.
In March 2014, the GAO reported that some non-VA providers experienced "lengthy delays" in the processing of their claims that, in at least one case, took years to resolve. Despite efforts to expedite reimbursement across the VA health care system, reports of delinquent and delayed payments to non-VA providers across the country continue. As a result, some are hesitant, unwilling or unable to provide care to veterans due to fears they will not be paid for the services they provide. Even more disturbing, many veterans are being held responsible for these outstanding bills in the absence of VA payment. The Subcommittee will be examining the ability of VA to comply with the Prompt Pay Act, review what barriers are preventing reimbursement process timeliness and accuracy, and assess VA's efforts to expedite payments to non-VA providers.
