Special St. Patrick's Day Train Ride, Saturday March 17 (celebrating the influence of Irish-Celtic culture and history in Hawaii).

Aloha,

The theme is St. Patrick's Day, celebrating the influence of Irish-Celtic
culture and history in Hawaii.  This is a family oriented, non partisan, non
political, non religious event and without any alcoholic beverages (sorry!-
there will be time for that LATER- and we will let you know WHERE).

We will dedicate the St. Patrick's Day train ride this year to
Scots-Irishman James Campbell, born in Ireland, and who foresaw a great
future for the Ewa Plains. The Campbell Estate has also generously supported
the Hawaiian Railway Society and preservation of Ewa Plains cultural
history.

You will also learn about some famous Hawaiian-Irish, like Paniolo cowboy
rodeo champion- Ikua Purdy, and pioneer surfer and lifeguard George Freeth,
who won the Congressional Medal of Honor for life saving.

The special St. Patrick's Day railway ride is 90 minutes long, with historic
narration, through Ewa countryside and eight grade crossings, as we pass
through Ewa, Kapolei and Ko Olina- past the new Disney hotel- to Kahe Point
(Tracks Beach-Electric beach), and then return back to Ewa railway station
and museum.

Leaves at 9:30 AM and returns by 11 AM - so you can still make the St.
Patrick's Day Parade in Waikiki and later downtown St. Patrick's Day block
party events Saturday evening.

Reserved seats must be BOOKED IN ADVANCE so that we can prepare for the
charter train configuration and seating requirements. Are you a "wee bit"
Irish or none at all? Doesn't matter if you are wearing some green! UH green
team jerseys are o.k. too. ...Or wear some classic green Hawaiian plantation
era Palaka!

Don't call Hawaiian Railway for tickets- because this is a special March 17
CHARTER Train Ride. They will run the train but we are running this
exclusive St. Patrick's themed railway ride and Ewa Plains cultural history
event.

Get your special St. Patrick's Day Train Ride Reserved Seats NOW. Our past

More Info on the Special St. Patrick's Day Railway Ride...

Did you know King Kamehameha III chose St. Patrick's Day to be his official
birthday...?

Did you know that the once ubiquitous Hawaiian Palaka pattern (featured in
green on our flyer,) and made popular by old Hawaii stores like Arakawa's,
originates from Celtic tartan designs...?

The railway cars travel over an historic 1890's NARROW GAUGE railway, the
same original rails of the once great Oahu Railway, chartered by King David
Kalakaua. These rails are on the National Historic Register and the only
remaining original historic railway in Hawaii.

We will also pass by WW-II era Marine Corps Air Station Ewa Field, Naval Air
Station Barbers Point, Fort Barrette and Battery Arizona, where guns from
the USS Arizona were once located.

Join us on this historic Ewa Plains History Train Ride with Irish-Celtic
music entertainment and tunes throughout the 90 minute journey over the
narrow gauge railway route.

Train ride funds raised goes towards support of 501-c-3 Ewa Plains Programs
and to the general Hawaiian Railway Society historic mission of preserving
the history of plantation railways and Oahu Railway era history.

Tickets will NOT be sold by the Hawaiian Railway Society, you will need to
contacting me directly at the email address below for paid seat
reservations. Sorry- we can't take credit card payment over the phone.
Instead We ask you to please send check payment made out to: "Ewa Plains
Programs".

About the Hawaiian Railway Society-

The Hawaiian Railway Society worked successfully decades ago to place the
former US Navy railway and OR&L mainline from Ewa to Nanakuli on the
National Register of Historic Places.

About 9.5 miles of the historic right of way, track and bridges have been
restored by and are maintained by the HRS with further work by the Society
underway to restore more of the track and right of way. HRS Volunteers
continue their work to preserve, restore and display all of the historic
railroad locomotives, cars and equipment in the HRS collection. This
includes restoration of the classic 1890's era Dillingham Parlor car.
