American Idol finalist, Marine Corps veteran to make special appearance to honor military

WASHINGTON--The Pentagon Federal Credit Union Foundation(PenFed Foundation), a nationally recognized nonprofit organization working to meet the unmet needs of military members and their families, is pleased to announce that Marine Corps veteran, American Idol finalist, and country music recording artist Josh Gracin, will serve as the guest entertainer at its Ninth Annual Night of Heroes Gala. The event will take place on Thursday, May 23, 2013, in Washington, D.C., honoring the men and women of our military.

"We can think of few performers to better honor the men and women of our military than Josh Gracin, a fellow veteran who's well-known for his country music," said Col. (Ret.) Robert W. Siegert, chairman of the PenFed Foundation board. "We are honored he is taking time out of his busy touring schedule to perform at this year's gala."

Other notable guests attending this year's gala include Eric K. Shinseki, secretary of Veterans Affairs; U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren; Anthony J. Principi, R. James Nicholson, and James Peake, former secretaries of Veterans Affairs; Hollister K. Petraeus, assistant director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and director of the Office of Servicemember Affairs; General John F. Campbell, vice chief of staff of the U.S. Army; and Col. Gregory D. Gadson, commander of the U.S. Army Garrison Fort Belvoir; and Mr. and Mrs. Lee Anderson, chairman of APi Group, Inc. Lee Woodruff, author and founder of the Lee Woodruff Foundation will serve at the emcee.

All proceeds from the gala will go toward supporting the foundation's programs—all of which have an element of financial literacy—providing military personnel and their families with emergency financial assistance, home ownership aid and alternatives to predatory lending. The gala will also help support the new Lee and Penny Anderson Defenders Lodge, a free hotel for veterans undergoing medical care at the VA hospital in Palo Alto, Calif. Construction is already underway and slated to be completed later this year.

The Night of Heroes Gala will begin at 6 p.m. at the Ritz-Carlton in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, May 23, 2013. Sponsors of this year's gala include PSCU; corporate circle of honor sponsors SAIC and The Niner Foundation; and legendary hero sponsors Alliant Techsystems, Inc., Allied Solutions, Raytheon, Route 66 Extended Warranty, and True Car.

"We are touched that Josh Gracin is donating his time to make the gala an evening to remember," added Siegert. "He is a talented performer who served his country well and I know our gala attendees will love him."
